It’s okay not to be okay. Talking about mental health challenges doesn’t make you weak — it makes you human. When we share how we’re really feeling, we give others permission to do the same. This week, take one small step: check in on a friend, open up to someone you trust, or simply listen with compassion. Every conversation helps stop the stigma and start the healing. The holiday season often brings moments of joy, connection, celebration and memories. But for many, it also brings sorrow, reminders of loss, or feelings of loneliness. It’s important to remember that both can exist at the same time. Feeling grateful doesn’t erase grief, and feeling sad doesn’t mean you can’t also experience joy. This week, give yourself permission to hold both truths. Be gentle with yourself, honour your emotions, and know that whatever you’re feeling is valid.
To explore this topic further, APF is hosting a virtual Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, December 10th at 1:00 PM titled “Holding Both: Finding Meaning in the Middle.” This online session will dive deeper into how joy and sorrow can coexist, especially during the holidays. All are welcome to join.

The holiday season can be joyful, but it can also be busy, overwhelming, and full of competing demands. In the middle of the chaos, it’s easy to move from one task to the next without ever pausing. Taking even a few moments to breathe deeply and sit in silence can calm your mind, lower stress, and bring clarity. This week, give yourself the gift of a mindful pause — notice your breath, your surroundings, and how you feel in this moment. A few slow, intentional breaths can help ground you and create a sense of calm, even on the busiest days.

Kindness has the power to change someone’s day, including your own. A simple smile, a kind word, or a small act of care can remind us that we’re all connected. Being kind doesn’t just help others; it also boosts our own mood and strengthens our sense of purpose. This week, make kindness your practice – toward others and toward yourself.
